Even More Songs Pulled from TikTok

The Universal and TikTok battle continues!

At the beginning of last month, Universal Music Group (UMG) announced they would not renew the deal with TikTok - dissolving all negotiations over royalties and removing all music owned and distributed by UMG from the platform.

Now UMG, who is said to own between 20%-30% of TikTok's music catalogue, is continuing to pull out all music owned by the company - including any songs that UMG signed artists wrote or co-wrote.

TikTok clips containing UMG tracks will now go completely silent on the platform while  UMG seek “appropriate compensation for our artists and songwriters, protecting human artists from the harmful effect of AI, and Online safety for TikTok’s users.”

UMGs move away from TikTok should now be taken into consideration when planning TikTok content. However, it’s not yet clear how this new development will affect song covers and remakes living on the platform.
