Instagram is said to be working on a ‘Friends Map’ that lets users track their last-known location online. If it goes live, Instagram would be able to share their end-to-end encrypted location with a select few friends or their entire group of followers.
Instagram’s Friend Maps could be a handy new feature for artists and musicians playing gigs and events, helping spread the word and location of venues in a way that is not only faster but also builds excitement.
Friend Maps will also allow users to leave comments on the map once the location is shared - introducing an interactive element to engage and connect with your followers.
The ability to choose who views your maps could also be used to reward super-fans for actively engaging with your content and reinforcing an online community - something that Instagram has struggled to do before.
