Twitter has launched Topics - a new feature designed to reduce trawling through hashtags to find relevant content. At launch, there are 300 subjects for people to choose from, across sports, entertainment, and gaming. Here is Twitter’s announcement video outlining the launch.
For businesses - having content categorised into a popular topic will offer a huge boost to visibility and profile discovery. Categorisation will be done automatically, with the algorithm selecting relevant posts by searching for accounts that regularly tweet on the subject. Engagement levels will also be taken into account.
