TikTok’s position in the US is being challenged following the introduction of the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act” on 19th January, which effectively bans the app.
Following the ban, an executive order from President Trump has granted TikTok 75 days to secure a deal that complies with the new law.
While Apple and Google have removed TikTok from their app stores, existing users can still access the platform, reportedly thanks to Oracle’s ongoing support.
Reports suggest Microsoft is among the companies in talks to acquire TikTok, with Oracle and others also expressing interest. However, it remains unclear whether any potential deal would meet the legal requirements.
With no clear resolution in sight, TikTok’s future in the US remains in limbo. In the meantime, TikTok creators should stay alert to developments in this space and consider exploring opportunities on other platforms.
