TikTok has launched a premium-only subscription service after securing the licensing of the big three major labels' catalogues.
Described as a 'social music streaming service", TikTok aspires to utilise the power of music discovery, uninterrupted ad-free listening and offline downloads to let users stream full versions of viral TikTok songs to increase opportunities and revenue for artists.
Currently, the subscription is only available in Brazil and Indonesia, where TikTok holds 84 million and over 113 million users, but it may spread to other regions over time.
As of now, the TikTok company has said they "don't have anything to share on future plans." However, TikTok music creators should closely follow these developments, as they could hold a substantial advantage for increasing following with the added potential to capitalise on content – if and when the company decides to expand.
